Acknowledgments

The idea of this book was developed at Politecnico di Milano by interacting with our students, alumni, and colleagues. We saw the importance that performance measurement and management has for engineers and, more generally, people with a technical background, such as architects and designers.

These professionals and managers are not meant to become specialists in finance or accounting, but they do make decisions that affect enterprises’ value and performance. Engineers, architects, and designers are extremely interested in this field and want to learn more, but information about this field is often spread across many books, vertically analyzing techniques.
