APPLICATION EXAMPLE: FILELLA-GUIU AND BLANCH-PANA (2002)

In response to a growing body of research illustrating a negative correlation between employment and repeat offenses by ex-convicts, a medium-sized Spanish prison implemented the Guidance Program for Job Search (PORO) to prepare inmates for gainful employment. Based on individuals' judicial situation, PORO assigned prisoners to one of three levels of guidance. The program content was organized around four core areas: (1) job skills and competency, (2) where to search for jobs, (3) practical aspects of job searching (for example, interviewing and preparing a résumé), and (4) worker rights.
