There are many models and tools available to performance improvement practitioners; we offer these as samples from among many we have found useful over the years. They are not meant to be all-inclusive. They allow us one view of organizations. However, no matter how appropriate the tools are for the task, they are useless to us and to our clients without the all-important link to the organization’s business. A colleague reminds us (Wittkuhn, 2004) how important it is to know what our models tell us as well as what they do not say, for once we select a model we may have biased the outcome of our project.
