CONDUCTING A performance appraisal meeting is just one part of effectively managing your employee’s performance. You also need to follow up after each meeting. That means monitoring the person’s progress toward agreed-upon goals, as well as stepping back and assessing your own skill as a manager at appraising your direct reports’ performance.

After you have completed your performance appraisal, make sure both you and the employee have a copy of the development plan or a written record of next steps and commitments.
