Summary

Fundamentally, managing Ethernet interfaces is the same as almost any LAN interface. There are some errors and conditions unique to Ethernet interfaces, as described in this chapter. Basically, however, the interfaces table (ifTable) provides the majority of the information needed for performance and fault management of Ethernet interfaces.

The concepts in this chapter can also be applied to other LAN interfaces, such as Token Ring and FDDI. In the next chapter, we discuss a very different technology: ATM.
