3 Understanding Control Tables

Control tables store lists of standard values. In PeopleSoft, 376 different control tables store everything from department numbers to military status options. There is even a table that lists types of animals (for accident reporting). Most of the time control tables are used to find a description or particular attribute of a code. Rather than store the full name of every department on every table that has the department field (you’ll find it on over 300 tables), PeopleSoft stores it in one place—the department table.
