How to Identify Someone’s Style
SHERLOCK HOLMES WAS famous for his powers of observation. In one rather typical case, after just a few minutes with his client, the fictional detective noted much that was missed by his companion, Dr. Watson. With feigned modesty the famous sleuth said, “Beyond the obvious facts that he has at some time done manual labor, that he is a Freemason, that he has been in China, and that he has done a considerable amount of writing lately, I can deduce nothing.”
Watson was astonished. None of these facts had been communicated verbally. How was it possible for his detective friend to perceive these things?
