1. Be Sensitive to Culture

Culture is the acceptable protocol for how one behaves and communicates. These protocols differ depending on where or how one was raised. There is no one correct or incorrect protocol. What one person may perceive as incorrect may be absolutely the most appropriate behavior for someone else.

When we speak of culture, we often assume that we mean cultures based on borders separating one country from another. That can certainly be the case. In our scenario, Pierre was probably aghast at the brazen approach Jane took when announcing that everyone was going to compete in the PMI singing contest. But Beauregard from Atlanta probably was also put off by the announcement for different reasons.
