What Is the Function of the Team?
Now that we understand why we are pursuing the team approach, we need to answer the second question: What is the primary purpose or function of the team?
The purpose of the team is to execute all of the tasks necessary to produce the product for which it is responsible. That is to say that the team must develop specifications, design, develop, test, produce, and deliver the product that satisfies the customers’ requirements. There is nothing new or unique here. This same statement is just as accurate when applied to a project operating in a projectized functional organization or in a strict functional hierarchy. So what is unique about a team?
