The Value of QFD in the Development Cycle

The early beginnings of QFD, in the ’70s, concentrated on correlating customer requirements with design attributes, it then developed rapidly in a variety of industries in Japan and was extended from design attributes through to parts, processes, and production. Most documented applications of the technique are in the area of product development (Kathawala and Motwani 1994), although applications in software development (Haag, Raja, and Schkade 1996), educational program design, and the service industry (Graessel and Zeidler 1993) have been published.
