Rewards

Finally, the project budget should always include dollars for rewards, but this need not be a $1 million per day bonus. That is what the state of California paid over the contract estimate during each day of improvement for completion of the interstates after the last earthquake.

Here are some suggestions for other reward ideas:

  • Certificates of recognition that can be printed on a laser printer.

  • A pizza party, or any lunch, catered to the job site. (No alcohol; it could set a bad precedent.)

  • Tee shirts, hats, pens, key chains, coffee mugs, or mouse pads that are printed with something related to the project. This also supports the need for belonging.

  • Gift certificates to sporting-goods stores, restaurants, or shopping centers.

  • Turkeys, hams, ...
