8.5 EXPERIMENTAL MEASUREMENT OF THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY

Thermal conductivity is an important physical property of PEM fuel cells with respect to thermal management because conduction is the major mode of waste heat removal from the MEA. The conductivity is a scalar for isotropic materials but a tensor for anisotropic materials such as fibrous GDLs. Experimental thermal conductivity and contact resistance measurements have been reported in the literature. Figure 8-23 schematically shows two sets of experimental setups for measuring thermal conductivity of thin-layer materials.
