18.1. Basic Concepts

We learned in Chapter 5 that current flowing onto one surface (of a capacitor) will couple onto the other surface as a result of Coulomb’s Law (see Section 1.6.1). We can call this charge coupling or capacitive coupling. There is an electric field around any charge, and if the charge changes (as in a flowing current) the electric field changes also.

We learned about inductive coupling (magnetic coupling) in transformers in Chapter 11. Any time a current flows, there is a magnetic field around the conductor. And if the current is changing, then the magnetic field also changes. So it follows ...
