Understanding Product Diagrams

When looking at the product diagrams, you may wonder why they don’t normally show things like the Project Brief, the PID and the Highlight Reports (progress reports). It’s normal to show only specialist products on the planning diagrams. A workable limit to the number of products on a plan is 30 (that’s up to 30 on the Project Plan then up to 30 lower-level products on each Stage Plan), and in most projects you need all that space to show the specialist products. That doesn’t mean that the management products are forgotten, though; they’re simply not put on the diagrams. In the case of progress reports which are at set time intervals, you can’t put them on a sequence diagram anyway, because they come in lots of places.
