Chances are you have told your child, “Do what interests you!” But what does it mean to “do something you like”? How is your child supposed to figure this out?

Finding a First Career

There are two basic ways to find an initial career. One is to look at what already interests you and see if you want to make a career out of that. The other is to think about the skills you enjoy using and find something interesting to do with those skills.

Here is an example of the second approach:

Matt is interested in music. He has played guitar and drums since he was 12. He organized several rock bands while in high school. He likes to write music and perform rock music on the stage.
