Jumping Around in Your Document

Every Doc reader offers numerous methods of skipping from place to place in the text instead of scrolling.

Many of the commands that pertain to navigating your document lie in AportisDoc’s Go menu, TealDoc’s View menu, or SmartDoc’s Navigate menu. For example, the To Top and To Bottom commands are there. Learning to use them (or their Graffiti ShortCut equivalents) will serve you well.

The % Box or Scroll Bars

Understanding where you are in a SmartDoc file is easy, thanks to its standard vertical scroll bar. (You can choose to place it on the left side of the screen if you’re left-handed). TealDoc, too, has a scroll bar, although it’s placed horizontally at the bottom of the screen. (Tap the % symbol if you don’t see it.) In AportisDoc, you see, next to the Done button, a percentage indicator. It shows how far you are through the current document; if it says 50%, for example, you’re about in the middle.

What you may not realize, however, is that you can use this blank to jump around in your e-book:

  1. Tap the number in the “%” blank.

  2. In the dialog box that appears, write a new percentage and tap OK.

The PalmPilot jumps instantly that far into the document.

Bookmarks

At the lower-right corner of the AportisDoc/TealDoc/SmartDoc screen is a small black triangle—your cue that a pop-up menu awaits. In this case, the pop-up menu lists bookmarks: predefined spots in the book to which you can jump by choosing their names from this menu. (See Figure ...
