Modern smartphones like the Pre are really blurring the lines between portable computers, personal digital assistants, and phones, and those lines get blurrier seemingly each and every day. Ultimately, though, you need your phone to communicate whether you're using a Pre or one of those big brick phones from the 1980s — and communicating is what Part II is all about.
I start things off in Chapter 4 the old-fashioned way — making voice calls and text messages — and from there you'll move on to e-mail in Chapter 5 and instant messaging in Chapter 6. If it's possible to be "over-connected," the Pre will certainly get you there in a hurry — and I'm going to help you!
