Chapter 12. Finding Your Way with the Pre

In This Chapter

  • Getting to your destination with Sprint Navigation

  • Mapping it out with Google

  • Checking out third-party navigation-related apps

Your Pre contains a GPS chip as well as two applications that use it to help you get where you need to go: Sprint Navigation and Google Maps. I explore those apps in this chapter, along with some third-party apps you can download through the App Catalog to help you find what you need and how to get there.

Getting Around with Sprint Navigation

The Sprint Navigation app on your Pre offers live navigation, providing verbal and visual turn-by-turn instructions to get you from your location to the destination of your choice. Sprint Navigation monitors your progress throughout your trip and even attempts to re-route you if you choose to not follow directions.

Tip

If your sense of humor is anything like mine, you might find it entertaining to set a course to a destination you know and then ignore Sprint Navigation to see what it does.

The Sprint Navigation app enables you to find out how to get where you want to go in a variety of ways. You also can save directions to places and then quickly and easily redisplay them. Sprint Navigation uses Location Services; or, if you're out of range of the Sprint network, Wi-Fi to determine where you are so it can help you get where you need to go. Both Location Services and Wi-Fi take advantage of the GPS chip in the phone to determine your current position on the planet.
