Rhodes, N., and McKeehan, J., Palm Programming: The Developer’s Guide, O’Reilly & Associates, Inc., 1999, 457 pages. The original introduction to application development in the Palm OS environment, including device, conduit, and desktop component development.

Stevens, W.R., UNIX Network Programming, Prentice-Hall, Inc., 1998, 1009 pages. The classic exposition of network application development using Berkeley Sockets; most of the concepts in this book apply to any platform, not just Unix.

Quinn, B., and Shute, D., Windows Sockets Network Programming, Addison Wesley Longman, Inc., 1996, 637 pages. Describes the theory and implementation of network application development on the Windows platform; most of the concepts apply to any network host platform.

Kernighan, B. and Ritchie, D., The `C’ Programming Language, Prentice-Hall, Inc., 1988, 272 pages. The original and still classic introduction to programming with `C’. No one should attempt to write any applications in `C’ or C++ without this book on their desk.

Pogue, D., PalmPilot: The Ultimate Guide, Second Edition, O’Reilly & Associates, Inc., 1999, 1009 pages. Explains how to do just about anything with your Palm OS device except program it.
