Foreword

Each of us is on a personal creative odyssey, seeking a unique expressive voice. For some, creativity is realized through words or music. For others, it is articulated via images. Whatever medium this voice takes, tools are necessary to create the expression. The more flexible the tool, the greater the potential range of expression.

In 1992, I had the good fortune of becoming involved with the creation and development of Painter. Previously, Mark Zimmer and Tom Hedges had written both the groundbreaking Letraset ImageStudio and ColorStudio graphic applications for the Macintosh.
