Pierce Returns

You can’t always choose the path you walk in life, but you can always choose the manner in which you walk it.

As he eased himself into the cab’s back seat, Pierce acknowledged that Rose Barnes had been the cherry on top of the proverbial ice cream. Looking back at the lessons extracted from each encounter, he applied them all to Rose Barnes, MD. Ticking them off as he went, she met each and every mark. It was now time to apply these lessons to his life.

Visualizing Jon Davis, Bobby Rehnquist, Coach Edwards, and Dr. Rose Barnes in his mind’s eye, he wondered what he would take from each encounter as he moved forward. Pierce asked himself the following questions:

Do I believe in myself, and the talents I have been given, in order to make a difference?

Will I move forward truthfully, acting with courage and integrity?

Will I choose to do truly great things?

Will I create a living legacy?’

And, the most important question: Am I willing to change?

Pierce was well aware that the opportunity of meeting these people and seeking their advice in terms of discovering his path was only one, very small, part of the equation. It would all be meaningless unless he chose to make the necessary changes. He closed his eyes and thought hard about this. It was all very well to be caught up in the excitement of the moment, of the possibility; but the hard work it would take to identify and implement change was yet to come.
