Understanding Devices and Destinations

As we've seen in other discussions of ODS destinations and style templates, each destination has a default style template that is used in the creation of output. So too does each destination have an appropriate or preferred image format and a default resolution or dots-per-inch (DPI) value that is used in the creation of ODS output files.

With the ODS HTML destination, external image files are created when you use SAS/GRAPH and SAS/STAT procedures that produce graphics. However, other destinations, such as RTF and PDF, do not use external tags or pointers to a graphic file. Instead, graphics images sent to these destinations are internally converted and embedded in the RTF or PDF file.
