Synopsis

The Journal View Current View submenu (Figure 11-12) contains six preconfigured ways to view Journal entries.

The first three menu items—By Type, By Contact, and By Category—are timeline views, where entries are grouped vertically using the “By...” choice. The timeline’s date range is shown horizontally, and can be selected via toolbar buttons or by context menu (right-click the date description). Available options are Day, Week, or Month. Clicking on the raised header button (+ or -) next to the type description expands or collapses the group. Journal entries are represented by icons and are arranged horizontally by date and vertically by time (earlier entries higher on the list). Figure 11-13 shows a timeline view.

Quickly Expand/Collapse Timeline Groups

When working in a timeline view, Outlook adds an entry, Expand/Collapse Groups, to the View menu. This item mirrors the functionality of the raised header +|- button, but adds the ability to expand or collapse all groups with one command rather than toggling each group separately.
