Controlling Interactions with Others

In the People pane, you can specify whether to limit the user's ability to exchange e-mail and instant-messaging chats with the addresses you specify, as well as to participate in the Game Center (see Chapter 9).

New Feature

OS X Mountain Lion adds the ability to control users' access to Game Center, an app that is also new to OS X Mountain Lion.

First, specify the restrictions you want to set for participation in Game Center by selecting either or both options at the top of the pane:

Allow Joining Game Center Multiplayer Games: This option, if selected, ensures that your child can't join in multiplayer games, which can be very time-consuming and involve people you don't know.

Allow Adding Game Center Friends: This option, if selected, ensures that your child doesn't invite strangers to his or her online game play without your knowledge.

Keep in mind that these controls apply only to interactions via the Game Center application; you use the Apps pane to restrict access to other games and the Web pane to restrict access to online gaming websites.

Then specify what communications you are limiting by selecting the Limit Mail and/or Limit Messages options.

Click the + icon button to add a user, then use one of these two ways to add allowed users from the settings sheet that appears:
