Installing and Setting Up OS X

The Set Up iCloud and Use iCloud for Find My Mac windows are new to OS X Mountain Lion's installation. Use the first to provide your iCloud account and enable the Mac to sync via iCloud. Use the second to set up your Mac so Apple's servers monitor its location and let you find a missing Mac, lock it, or wipe its contents remotely.

OS X Mountain Lion dispenses with the Software Update application of previous OS X versions. Instead, all Apple software updates, including those to OS X itself, are handled via the App Store application.

OS X Mountain Lion makes multiple enhancements in its Chinese language support. If you enable any Chinese dialect, Safari makes the Baidu search engine an option (see Chapter 17), and the Sina Weibo social networking service and Touku and Tudou video-sharing websites are added to your share sheet options (see Chapter 12). You can now mix Pinyin and English text in a sentence without switching keyboards, and Pinyin input now supports regional pronunciation variations, emoji, and facemarks, and it now provides auto-correct suggestions. Your user dictionary from the Text pane of the Language & Text system preference is now synced across your devices via iCloud, and OS X Mountain Lion adds eight new Chinese fonts.
