Managing Widgets

The Dashboard provides basic capabilities for removing widgets from its window, rearranging them, and—from the widget browser—obtaining new widgets from other sources.

Removing widgets

You can remove any of these widgets from the Dashboard window by clicking the large – (minus) icon button at the bottom left of the Dashboard window. Doing so causes a Close button (the X icon) to appear in the widgets' upper-left corners. Click the Close icon to remove the widget from the Dashboard window. (You can add it back later by clicking the large + icon button at the lower left of the Dashboard window and then clicking the widget from the icons that appear.)

New Feature

OS X Mountain Lion gets rid of the Widgets widget, the Manage Widgets button, and the scrolling bar of widgets at the bottom of the Dashboard window, making the removal of widgets much simpler, as well as simplifying the addition of widgets from other sources.

Rearranging widgets

To rearrange widgets on the Dashboard window, simply drag them to the desired location. It's that simple!

Obtaining widgets

You can have more widgets than those Apple provides with OS X. You can get additional widgets in three ways:

Download widgets from the web. An easy way to do so is to click the large + icon button at the lower left of the Dashboard window to open the widget browser, and then click the More Widgets button that appears.
