Summary

The Terminal application lets you run Unix on your Mac, issuing textual commands and getting textual responses. You can have multiple Terminal windows open, each doing separate activities. You also can have multiple Terminal tabs open, and switch among them as you might switch among websites through a browser's tabs.

The X11 environment lets you run graphical Unix applications as if they were OS X applications.
