Make Sure You Are Up to Date
There could be a bug in your operating system or application software that is causing your problems. Check to be sure you are using the latest versions of Mac firmware and Mountain Lion by running Software Update. To do so, choose Apple menu→Software Update. If Software Update finds new versions of your firmware or software, install them and see if this resolves your issues.
If the problems you are experiencing are related to a particular application, visit the website of the application developer to see if there are any updates to the software or if there are any known issues with it. Table 16.1 lists the web addresses of some of the most popular Apple software vendors and a list of their more popular products.
