Upgrading to Mountain Lion
Let’s get started with your upgrade to the latest feline from Apple. Follow these steps:
1. Make sure you are connected to the Internet.
Back up your files before performing the upgrade to Mountain Lion! Years of experience have taught me not to make a major leap (such as an operating system upgrade) without backing up first. If you don’t, Murphy’s Law dictates that something will erase Grandma’s recipes that have been passed down for generations.
2. Check the version of OS X you currently have installed by choosing Apple menu→About This Mac in the upper-left corner of your screen. You must at least have Mac OS X 10.6.8 to install Mountain Lion (10.8).
3. Open the App Store and type Mountain Lion into the search field in the upper-right corner.
4. Select and buy Mountain Lion from the App Store. You must have an Apple ID to do so. If you don’t have one, click the Create an Apple ID button when prompted.
5. After Mountain Lion downloads it begins the installation process. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete your upgrade. You are now fully Mountain Lionized!
