Working with Contacts

Have you ever needed to find an elusive phone number or address for a prospective client and had to thumb through ten devices and books to find it? Apple created Contacts just for you. Creating contacts in Contacts can sure make rounding up all those Christmas card addresses a lot easier.

Contacts are files that contain information for people in your life, such as street addresses, e-mail addresses, birthdays, and even their pictures. To get started, open Contacts by clicking Go→Applications and then double-clicking the Contacts icon. You can also enter Launchpad and single-click the Contacts icon.

Contacts is fairly useless without data, so let’s start adding some.

Creating a contact card

A contact card contains all of a person’s information, so to get started you need to create one. There are a few ways to begin creating a new card:

bullet.tif Choose FileNew Card from the menu.

bullet.tif Press maccmd+N.

bullet.tif Click the + button at the bottom of the All Contacts page in the Contacts window.

Any of these actions creates a new blank card awaiting your input, as shown in Figure 8.9.
