Navigating Mountain Lion Applications

Many of the basic functions and menus of Mountain Lion applications and utilities are accessed in the same way. For example, opening a file from within almost any application is done by choosing File→Open. There are also some keyboard shortcuts universally used in Mountain Lion applications.

Opening and closing applications

This one is basic, but necessary, so I’ll keep it short and to the point. Use one of these methods to open an application:

bullet.tif Choose GoApplications, or GoUtilities, from within the Finder and double-click the application or utility you need.

bullet.tif Click the application icon in the Dock.

bullet.tif Click the Launchpad icon in the Dock and then single-click the application’s icon.

bullet.tif Choose Apple menuRecent Items and select a recently used application from the list.

You can use one of these techniques to close an open application:

bullet.tif Choose the application title menu (immediately to the right of the Apple menu) and select Quit.
