A Fast Internet Connection

Not all DSL and cable Internet connections are equal. In my opinion, a faster Internet connection equals a better experience. Check the prices for higher-speed digital subscriber line (DSL) or cable modem connections. Or threaten to switch and see what kind of deal you can wrangle for a faster connection.

Once you do, web pages that took a while to load appear on-screen almost instantly. And streaming audio and video play with few, if any, hiccups.

If you can afford a faster tier of cable/DSL (from around $30–40/month in most places) and live in an area where you can get faster cable modem or DSL (not all places can yet), it will change the way you use the Internet. For more on setting up an Internet connection, see Chapter 10.

rantrave_4c.eps I pay a bit more for the fastest premium cable Internet access offered by my cable operator. It’s up to twice as fast as the “standard” speed package — and it’s worth every penny.
