Setting Up a Mailing List

Mailing lists, or listservs, are good ways to enable group discussions via e-mail. When a member of the listserv sends a message to the list address, the message is delivered to all the members. Mountain Lion Server does not have Lion Server’s capability to host a listserv that anyone can join but does let you create a mailing list of which everyone in a group is a member. That is, members must have user accounts on your server.

To create a listserv, go to the Groups pane under Accounts and double-click the name of a group. Next, select the Enable Group Mailing List check box. Now, when a group member sends mail to groupname.domain.com (or .net, .org, and so on), all group members will receive it, provided their e-mail addresses are entered in their user accounts, as described in the preceding section.
