Hosting your own e-mail server has advantages over using an outside provider. With the ability to customize e-mail options whenever you need to, you gain flexibility. If you have confidential data in your e-mail, storing your messages on your own server will give you peace of mind. When using an outside e-mail server, such as an Internet service provider or an offsite host, users in your building who e-mail one another send traffic out through your Internet connection and back. This traffic can slow the Internet connection in organizations with limited Internet bandwidth. Using your own e-mail server keeps internal e-mail traffic off your Internet connection.
