The results of the Cranfield top team surveys highlight that diversity, dissension, and difference are an everyday reality of life at the top of private sector and public service organizations. The survey equally highlights that no individual, no matter how gifted, is likely to fully appreciate the various requirements of different contexts. In fact, many top directors in the survey stated that they could not understand why their colleagues were championing particular viewpoints. Whatever the reasons for individual senior managers adopting different perspectives on key issues, the survey shows that top managers exercise discretion to pursue what they consider to be an appropriate way forward.
