The following are among the different interpretations of leadership.

  • Leadership is seen as a distinct kind of work that may or may not be required, according to demands of the circumstances.

  • Leadership is akin to a strong motivation or drive that spurs the individual to act, and hence has nothing to do with status, authority, or the holding of office.

  • Leadership is not always necessary, as steadily achieved success can be equally attained by good management.

  • Leadership is linked to the exercise of power, so that a vision can be realized through the mobilization of resources.
