7.4.2 Instruments of Data Collection
Instruments required for data collection depend essentially on the variables identified for study. The nature and characteristics of the data indicate the type of instrument to be used. If the diagnosis starts from the final outcome variables, like performance or satisfaction, one would immediately recognise the need for different instruments. Many performance variables, like productivity, profit, and so on, can be measured by archival data. But for collection of data from archives and for unobtrusive measures, there cannot be a set pattern. The diagnostician's research background may be of some help to him in formulating his own instruments. Similarly, there is no ready-to-use tool for collecting data.
