1.8.1 Multidimensional Environment

The environment of the organisations are multi-dimensional as explained below:

a. Complexity

The external environment may range from simple to complex. When there are a few forces and their influence is predictable, they denote a simple environment. When a number of forces operate together and each wields a considerable influence, the environment is termed as complex.

b. Volatility

When the rate of change in environment is insignificiant, it is termed as a stable or static environment. But the environment of modern organisations is dynamic because of an increased rate of change. The nature and degree of change is not predictable.
