The shoe company Crocs had its origins in Canada as Waldies, a company that made plastic footwear for gardening. Crocs was founded by George Boedecker Jr. and his friend Lyndon Hanson in 1999. All Crocs-brand shoes were made with a proprietary resin called Croslite. The resin, which is “NOT plastic NOR rubber,”1 as the company claims, resulted in a particularly comfortable, easy-to-clean, and odor-resistant shoe.
