What Is Log Miner

Log Miner is used to view into the Oracle online or archive redo logs. This is useful in creating 'undo' SQL, and is useful to back out committed transactions.

This information is also useful to see who has been doing what; for example, some uses for auditing.

Log Miner first appeared with Oracle8.1.7 and is a free utility that comes with the database and examines and extracts information from Oracle Redo logs. This log information can be used to undo committed transactions, such as erroneous DELETEs, and this same information can be used to audit database activity such as table access, who is making DML changes to sensitive objects, and how often certain objects are being accessed.
