Summary
This chapter concentrated on understanding the explain plan, a key ingredient to tuning the SQL statements found in our Sales Tracking application. We discussed the two Oracle optimizers, how to control both, and how to interpret the output explain plans from both. The author gave some key information on how to help interpret what the cost-based optimizer is doing and some key init.ora parameters to assist the cost-based optimizer in its decisions.
