Summary

In this chapter, you learned what the Oracle Application Server is. The first part of this chapter provided an in-depth overview of how a Web browser can interact with a host computer. The topics of applets and servlets were introduced, as well as how the Oracle Application Server works to provide services (HTML output) to requesting Web browsers. This chapter also summarized the three Web-based programming environments that will be covered in the remainder of this book: PL/SQL, Java, and WebDB. The final section of this chapter summarized the uses and differences of these three programming environments as they apply to Web page development.
