CHAPTER 7Interpreting Common Latency-Related Wait Events

There are hundreds of wait events in an Oracle Database, but the nice thing about OWI is that you need to know only a handful of common wait events to cover most of your tuning needs. So far, you have been exposed to 10 common I/O- and lock-related wait events. This chapter covers another 6 common latency-related wait events. It equips you to diagnose and correct problems related to: log file sync, log buffer space, free buffer waits, write complete waits, log file switch completion, and log file switch (checkpoint incomplete). Oracle Real Application Clusters (RAC) related events are covered in Chapter 8.
