Creating a Virtual Machine Using ISO Images and Installation Media

Creating a virtual machine manually using installation media is done by making the virtual machine installation believe that it is installing from a CD-ROM, when in fact it’s actually installing from a virtual image. In either case, whether CD-ROM or ISO image, the process is the same.

If a VM Server supports hardware virtualization, ISO images can be imported into the server, which gives you the ability to use those ISO images as the source of the installation. For VM Servers that don’t support HVM, the installation process can only be done using the installation media on NFS or using PXE boot, which will covered later in the chapter.
