Synopsis

ED[IT] [filename]

The EDIT command allows you to invoke an external editor to edit the contents of the SQL buffer or to edit the contents of an operating system file. For example:

EDIT
EDIT $ORACLE_BASE/admin/orcl/pfile/init.ora

The first command—with no parameter—allows you to edit the contents of the SQL buffer. The second allows you to edit a file.
