Creating User Accounts

Before the database can be used, a user account must be created and be granted privileges. Examples of privileges are the ability to establish an Oracle session, the ability to create database objects (e.g., tables, synonyms), or the ability to modify data that another user account owns. User accounts are also used to denote the owner of a database object.

When Oracle is first installed, two default accounts are created: SYS and SYSTEM. If you have just installed Oracle, you will be interested in the SYSTEM account, the default ID for which is manager.
