Chapter 10

Regular Expressions

A regular expression is a sequence of characters that describes a search pattern. This chapter explains how to use regular expressions to search for data.

Searching without Regular Expressions

Listing 10.1: Searching exactly for Standard Store

SELECT * FROM customer
WHERE c_name = 'Standard Store';

Assuming the customer table has the following columns and rows

C_NO C_NAME        C_ADDRESS                  C_PHONE
---- ------------- -------------------------- -----------
10 Standard Store  1 University Ave M5H 3B9   416-1010-111
20 Quality Store 3030 Bunty ...
