Synopsis

Provides connection information. For each service, there is one section containing the appropriate connect information.

Keywords and clauses

The following parameters can be used for connect parameters, each enclosed by parentheses:

FAILOVER_MODE = failover_clause

Used for Transparent Application Failover (TAF). The failover_clause can be one or more of the following parameters, each surrounded by parentheses:

BACKUP = backup_net_service_name

Specifies the net service name for the backup connection.

TYPE = SESSION | SELECT | NONE

Specifies what Oracle Net Services does if a failure on the primary instance occurs. SESSION establishes a session with the backup instance. SELECT establishes a session with the backup instance, reopens cursors for any outstanding SELECT statements, and repositions those cursors so that fetching continues from the point the client was at when the primary connection failed. NONE doesn’t failover at all, which allows you to explicitly specify the default behavior.

METHOD = BASIC | PRECONNECT

BASIC establishes the backup connection only when the connection to the primary instance fails. PRECONNECT establishes the connection to the backup when the primary connection is made.

RETRIES = retry_attempts
