Value: default Oracle version - current Oracle version

Default: release dependent

Functions like the COMPATIBLE parameter, except that the earlier version may not be usable on the current database if recovery is needed. The default value is the earliest version with which compatibility can be guaranteed. Obsolete with Oracle8i.
