Drillthrough vs. Drillback
Drilling back to source systems was, for the longest time, the holy grail of consolidation reporting. Finally it is something that is not only possible, but common with the Oracle EPM platform. But what do people mean when they say “drill”? Over time, the terms “drill back,” “drill through,” and “drill down” have been misused or used interchangeably. But each means something very different. Now that FDM, ODI, and ERPi allow this, each term means something very important.
These terms should not be used interchangeably. This is important because the term should tell the user where you are looking to see the data. Am I talking about going to just FDM, or am I talking about going back to your ERP, and will that suffice? ...
